Types of Rates
A strategy can have one of several different Rate Types, which determines the format of all rate tiers assigned to the strategy.
- Tariff
A tariff rate is based upon a specific rate base that returns a rate based upon the origin and destination of a shipment, its class, and its weight, such as CzarLite. Many LTL carriers use tariff rates. - Flat Rate
A flat rate is static, and does not change with the details of the shipment. - Mileage Rate
A mileage rate charges a set amount per mile the shipment travels. - Carton/Pieces Rate
A carton/piece rate charges a set amount per piece the shipment includes. - Pallet Positions Rate
A pallet position rate charges a set amount per position the shipment occupies in the truck. - CWT Rate
A CWT rate charges a set amount per hundred pounds of weight included in the shipment. - Volume Rate
A volume rate charges a set amount per cubic foot of volume included in the shipment. - Trailer Length
A trailer length rate charges a set amount per foot of length included in the shipment. - Area
An area rate charges a set amount per square foot of floor space the shipment occupies in the truck. - Density
A density rate charges a set amount per pound/cubic foot of the shipment. - Percent Markup Rate
A percent markup rate will perform a web rating call to find the carrier cost for the shipment and mark it up by a set amount before returning its rate. - Parcel
A parcel rate compares the shipment to a number of different criteria to determine a rate based upon the rate charged by a parcel carrier such as UPS or FedEx. - Multi-Modal Master Strategy
A multi-modal master strategy rate returns a rate based upon the underlying strategies, all of which have the multi-modal transportation mode, which allows it to accommodate shipments that are charged at different rates during different parts of their total transit. - Web Service
A web service rate returns a rate based upon an external web service rate base. - Revenue Split
A revenue split rate does not return a rate, instead determining how an existing rate should be split between partner carriers.
