Create a Contract for a Multi-Stop Load

Overview

Loads with multiple stops, such as round trips and milkruns, may require special care when creating contracts and strategies that must rate them. In general, strategies that rate by mileage or weight will properly rate multi-stop loads, since Contract Manager will calculate the total mileage required for all provided stop-off postal codes. However, milkruns or round trips that are contracted at a flat rate require additional information in their rate tiers to ensure the correct rate is returned, particularly if several different multi-stop loads with the same origin and destination are contracted at different rates.

Prerequisites

  • The total mileage of the milkrun or round trip, including all required stop-offs, must be known for the miler version being used.

Process

To Create a Flat Rate Strategy for a Multi-Stop Load:

  1. Search for a contract. See Search for a Contract for details.
  2. Open or create the contract that will hold the new strategy. See Add a New Contract for details on that process.
  3. Click Strategies.
  4. Click New.

The New Strategy Detail tab opens.

  1. Enter the Origin Area for the load. This should be as specific as possible, preferably using a specific postal code.
  2. Enter the Destination Area for the load. This should be the final destination, not any intermediate stops. For a round trip, it will be the same as the origin.
  3. Select a Transportation Mode.
  4. Select a Rate Type of Flat Rate.
  5. Select any Special Services the strategy will cover.
  6. Enter a Description for the strategy. Ideally, this will include basic details of the stops on the load so that the strategy can be easily identified.
  7. Select the miler to be used for Mileage By.
  8. Select the miler Version to be used.
  9. Enter any other information as needed. All other fields are optional.
  10. Click Detail.

The Summary of Tiers tab opens.

  1. Click Insert.

The New Tier tab opens.

  1. Enter the total mileage of the load in both Miles From and to, including all stops. This will restrict the tier to returning rates for a mileage band that does not include normal shipments between the provided origin and destination unless the load also visits all required stops.
  2. Enter the Flat Rate for the load.
  3. Click Save to create the rate or Cancel to discard it.

Result

The tier is saved and will return rates for loads between the provided origin and destination only if they match the total mileage of a route including all required stops.
