Track a Load Using MacroPoint
Overview
MacroPoint is a third-party service that allows for tracking a truck via the GPS location of its driver's phone or directly from the carrier's own transportation management system. Telling Optimiz to track a load using MacroPoint allows In Transit check calls to be updated automatically, providing real-time tracking of a load's location.
MacroPoint tracking incurs additional costs to ProTrans. Make sure a load requires MacroPoint tracking before using the service. See your supervisor for details on when MacroPoint tracking is required.
Prerequisites
- Users must have an active MacroPoint account, and their MacroPoint account password must be added to their Optimiz user record. See Add a User's MacroPoint Password for details.
- Submit a HelpDesk ticket to establish a connection with the carrier by SCAC code and Display ID prior to adding a new carrier.
- Users must have access to either the driver's cell number or the carrier's truck number. One of these pieces of information is required to create the tracking order in Macropoint.
- Before MacroPoint can be added, the load must be saved. MacroPoint cannot be added to a load during load creation.
Process
To Track a Load Using MacroPoint:
- Submit a HelpDesk ticket to establish a connection with the carrier by SCAC code and Supply Display ID.
- Access the Load Details for the load to be tracked using MacroPoint. See View Load Details for details.
- Click Carrier Details.
- Enter the Driver Cell Number for the driver of the load if available.
- Enter the carrier's Trailer Number for the load if available.
- Select whether to track by Driver Cell or Truck Number. At least one number must be available. If only one number is entered, that option will be selected automatically.
- Click Track by MacroPoint.
Result
A MacroPoint Tracking ID is added to the load as a Reference Type, and extra Intransit check calls will be completed for the load automatically.
