Add a Transportation Mode
Overview
Transportation Mode
The current available transportation mode options are:
- Air
- Intermodal
- LTL
- Parcel
- Rail
- Truckload
After the mode is selected, it must be configured with the following information:
- Should this be set as Auto Confirm?
- Is this the Default mode?
- What is the Standard Response Time?
- Is there a Standard Response Time override? If so, what is it?
An audit trail displays who created the record, the creation date, who modified the record, and the modification date.
Once a transportation mode has been added, it cannot be removed; however, its status may be changed to inactive.

- Search for the Carrier using the Entity Search feature. See Search for an Entity.
- Click Carrier.
- Click Transportation Modes.
- Select the mode from the dropdown list.

All selected transportation modes are displayed above the dropdown.
After a Carrier transportation mode has been added, it must be configured before it can be saved and made active.
To Add Transportation Mode Details:
- Click on the mode to select it.
Transportation Mode
- Auto Confirm - If selected, Optimiz automatically accepts tendered loads on behalf of the carrier. If deselected, carriers must manually accept tendered loads via the Carrier Portal or by EDI Explained.
- Default - If this is the default transportation mode for this carrier, select the Default checkbox.
- Active - the default setting is Active; if deselected, the mode has been deactivated and will not display in any dropdown menus associated with this carrier.
- Override Resp. Time - defaults to the ProTrans standard response time: the amount of time within which carriers must respond to tendered load requests (default setting is 2 hours). The Override Resp. Time field allows a user to add additional response time, if applicable, in accordance with the carrier's contract with ProTrans.
- Rate on Tender - default is Base Rate Only, which only shows a base rate with no accessorial costs on the carrier's tenders. Other selections include All In Rate, which will show the full cost rate with the note "All In," or No Rate, which will hide all rates from tenders. The setting in the carrier entity will override any Rate on Tender settings from the Customer Hierarchy.
- ETA Transit,Custom Transit, orContract Transit- allows users to select the method used to calculate transit times.
- ETA Transit,Custom Transit, orContract Transit- determines the method used to calculate transit times. ETA uses DOT calculations, Custom uses values from Solo and Team transit speeds and break times below, and Contract uses the transit times in the carrier's contract.
- Solo Transit MPH- the speed that a solo driver will travel.
- Team Transit MPH- the speed that team drivers will travel.
- Solo Transit MPH- allows users to input the MPH that a solo driver will travel.
- Team Transit MPH- allows users to input the MPH that team drivers will travel.
- Audit - displays who created the record, creation date, who modified the record, and modification date.
Tracking Methods
- Select any automated tracking methods that are used by the carrier. For each selected tracking method, select:
- The Tracking Method Preference. Tracking methods are attempted in preference order starting from 1.
- The Default Tracking Reference. This is the load reference number that is used for the selected tracking method.
Tendering Methods
- Select either EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) or Email.
- If Email is selected, add one or more tender contacts.
Do not add check call options without approval from a manager; the Departure Check call is required and cannot be changed.
Check Call Options
- Stop and Border check calls - the Carrier's preferred check call options for stops are set for arrivals and departures. Departure check calls on regular stops are required by Optimiz and are selected by default.
- Interval Check Call - the Carrier's preferred interval check call options can be configured, including the frequency of "in transit" check calls.
- Click Save Transportation Mode.
Result
The transportation mode is saved with the Carrier entity. If the Transportation Mode and configuration information is added after the Carrier has become active, this information will only apply to future tenders.
